The Faith Home Modular Housing – Training Center will operate a modular housing manufacturing facility producing high-quality, energy-efficient residential units in 400 sq. ft., 600 sq. ft., and 800 sq. ft. configurations.

These units are designed to address urgent housing needs across California’s Central Valley and Central Coast, serving farm laborers, unhoused families, affordable housing developers, and homeowners seeking accessory dwelling units (ADUs).

In parallel, the initiative includes a structured workforce training and pre-apprenticeship program that prepares students and recovering adults for careers in the construction trades, creating pathways to apprenticeships and long-term employment and income stability.

Location

The modular housing factory and training center is located on the 35-acre site of Faith Home Adult & Teen Challenge in Ceres, Stanislaus County, California. Classroom education will take place in an existing classroom. Hands-on experience will happen in the 6,000-sf manufacturing plant.

Training

Each participant will receive 16 hours of introductory electrical training through the VOLT Institute, providing foundational knowledge of electrical systems and safety.

Upon completion of this introductory training, each apprentice will complete 144 hours of pre-apprenticeship instruction in alignment with California Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS) guidelines. Classroom training topics include, but are not limited to:

  • General construction safety
  • OSHA standards
  • Workplace injury prevention
  • Basic math and measurement
  • Hand and power tools
  • Blueprint reading
  • Pneumatic tools
  • Applicable building codes

In conjunction with classroom instruction, apprentices will receive hands-on training within the manufacturing facility under the supervision of skilled instructors. Practical training will include framing, electrical, plumbing, insulation, interior finishes, roofing, exterior finishes, material inventory, module loading and transport, on-site setup, and service work required to prepare units for occupancy.

Continuing Training

In addition to the pre-apprenticeship certification, participants may pursue advanced or continuing education through partner institutions, including:

  • Northern California Construction Training (up to 800 hours across multiple trades)
  • DeHart Technical School (facilities maintenance, electrical, plumbing, solar, HVAC, refrigeration)
  • VOLT Institute (industrial maintenance, mechanics, electro-mechanics, automation, robotics, industrial pump systems, and fabrication)
  • Mother Lode Job Training
  • Stanislaus Workforce Development

Training costs are typically covered through grants or scholarships when available. Participants are not compensated during training, similar to other educational and workforce development programs.
