My name is Scott Fantazia. Before I entered Faith Home Adult & Teen Challenge in April 2024, I had been addicted to smoking cigarettes and marijuana, as well as drinking alcohol, for over thirteen years.
My mindset was basically focused on fulfilling my own pleasures and desires and living the way I wanted to live, as long as I wasn’t hurting anyone else. But in reality, I was affecting not only myself but also those around me. This caused my family great concern because I was constantly getting high and drunk. I had no regard for anything or anyone else. Eventually, this lifestyle led me to loneliness and depression, to the point where I just didn’t know what to do with myself anymore.
One day, my aunt and mother took me to Applebee’s, but it was actually an intervention. My aunt spoke to me about a place called Faith Home Adult & Teen Challenge. At first, I had no idea what it was. She explained that it is a Christian discipleship program that helps people with life-controlling issues while also helping them restore their relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
At first, I was hesitant to go, but I knew this was the best opportunity I had to change my life.
During my first few months at Faith Home, I struggled to stay in the program. Eventually, however, I began to become more submissive and open to what God was doing in my life. Two Bible verses that helped me through this time were:
Jeremiah 33:3: “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”
Philippians 4:6–7: “Do not be anxious about anything but in every situation by prayer and petition with thanksgiving present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your mind in Christ Jesus.”
During the third phase of my program, my progress was put on pause for a month because I had to have a tumor removed from inside my mouth. It was a dark moment in my life, especially during the healing process. I had a feeding tube for an entire month.
I got through that difficult time by remembering Psalm 23:4: “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
Three months after completing the program, I was informed by Pastor Rick that I had an outstanding warrant on my record from the entire time I was in the program. I was completely unaware of it. The warrant was related to a vandalism case that had occurred at one of my former jobs.
Pastor Rick and I attended court together, and after three court appearances, the judge finally dismissed my case by the grace of God.
